When Triathletes Attack… Brian vs. The Lobsterman

I had a magazine assignment last week to photograph Will Thomas, the founder of Tri-Maine, a fantastic company that produces some of the best multi-sport races in New England.  I took a few portraits, and even managed to hop in the ocean for some action shots of the swimmers during the Lobsterman Triathlon in Freeport, Maine.  Thought folks might enjoy seeing them (photos are also on our Facebook Page in case you spot someone you know, feel free to tag them: http://www.facebook.com/boathousephoto

A happy, dry Will.

You might see this shot and think we were going for a "hardcore" look... not really; this is Will becoming hypothermic and forgetting to smile.

Oh, and back to the athletes at The Lobsterman Triathlon… a friend of mine sent me the following photo that shows how I managed to get in the way of many swimmers (with permission).  Just look for the bald head amongst the purple swim caps.  Many thanks to Peter Thomas of alpengraphik.com for the photo.

Swimming Upstream...

I was a big Norwegian water hazard that day.  Thanks to all the athletes for allowing me that position, but I think the images were worth the obstruction!

And I even had a few minutes to catch part of the bike.

It’s hard to believe that I first raced The Lobsterman Triathlon NINE years ago… but I might just have to throw my hat back in the ring for the race’s ten year anniversary next September!

alyssa - Amazing shots. You captured Will in stunning portraits and had his personality come alive in your photography. Then the action shots made me feel like I was in the water (I would have been freaked out) and the bikes flying by actually moving!ReplyCancel

Jen - This is such a great range of images…You made Will look like a total bad@ss superhero, and I agree- the swim shots make me feel like I’m right in the water alongside everyone. Love it!!ReplyCancel
